Character(s)
Dominic Cantori is the main character in this book. He is a fifth-grader and an orphan. He lives in Brooklyn, New York. Dominic is a lonely and friendliness boy who does not have a lot of self-confidence. He is eleven years old and very shy. Dominic is small and he wears a t-rex t-shirt and khaki shorts. “His clothes are strange. Did you paint that monster on your shirt?” In the middle and end of the book, Dominic gets more self-confidence because he actually made new friends. “He’s become a brother to us. Please, Father, can you find him a way to America, too?” Their love for each other is very beautiful.
Father Tomaso is the foster father of the three orphan brothers. He is very important for them because they do not have their parents anymore. He looks like an old poor man and he is very kind. He is very careful and always wants the best for the three brothers. This quote really shows that he wants this. “You’d all be safe in America, Francesco, and your brothers would have a good life there.” It sais that Father Tomaso is trying to tell the orphans their life will be better in America and that they really have to go. ‘You must be brave, Antonio, Father Tomaso said.’ This quote shows his kindness and Father Tomaso being careful again.
